Question: Why should I register to be a member of the Center for Canine Studies?
Answer: By registering you will be able to participate in a study. You will also be able to access all of the Center’s website resources and information, and have access to Dr. Dodman’s Blog where as a registered Center member you will be able to submit questions and read his answers.
Question: Is there a fee, cost or donation required to register to become a member of the Center for Canine Behavior Studies?
Answer: No. Membership in the Center is free. However, as you learn about the Center’s mission and objectives, we hope you will contribute to support its operations and studies.
Question: Do I have to register a dog to be a member?
Answer: No. Anyone can register to be a member of the Center, even if they don’t have a dog.
Question: Do I need to be registered to participate in a study?
Answer: Yes. You must be registered to participate in a study. However, registering does not require you to participate in a study. Participation in a study is purely voluntary and anonymous.
Question: Why should I participate in a study?
Answer: There are many reasons, but the most important one is you can help the Center to potentially find solutions that will help reduce the annual killing of millions of dogs.
Question: Do I have to upload a picture of my dog or dogs when I have registered?
Answer: No. Uploading a picture or pictures is purely voluntary. Adding your dog’s name or caption to the photo is also optional. However, please do not include your last name or address information as we want members to remain anonymous.
Question: If I have more than one dog, do I need to create a new membership account for each dog?
Answer: No. Once you have registered as a member, in the Members Area you will be able to register additional dogs. Look for Register A Dog
Question: If I register more than one dog and want to participate in a study, do all of my dogs have to participate in a study?
Answer: No. Participation in a study is purely voluntary. If you choose to participate and have more than one dog registered, you choose which dog you want to include in a study. You can choose one dogs to participate, or all of them. The program will keep track and show you what dog is in which study.
Question: Can I drop my Center membership at any time?
Answer: Yes. Registration and Membership is purely voluntary. At any time you can drop out of the program by simply clicking the Drop Me from the Program button in the Members Area.
Question: Can I delete my dog from the program, or a specific dog if I have more than one registered?
Answer: Yes, you can delete any dog at any time from the program while maintaining your membership in the Center.
Question: Is the Center for Canine Behavior Studies a non-profit?
Answer: Yes. The Center is an operating division of The Simon Foundation, which is a non-profit 501(C)3. Thus any contribution made to either The Simon Foundation or the Center for Canine Behavior Studies is tax deductible.
Question: How do I designate a contribution?
Answer: Donations made on-line through PayPal will go directly to The Center for Canine Behavior Studies. Contributions made by check should clearly state that it is for either The Simon Foundation or the Center for Canine Behavior Studies.
Question: Can I volunteer to help?
Answer: Absolutely. We rely upon volunteers to be successful. There are many ways to volunteer at The Simon Foundation, but there are requirements. Please visit The Simon Foundation’s Volunteer page to learn more about volunteering.
The Center for Canine Behavior Studies has different volunteer needs than The Simon Foundation. Anyone can voluntarily help to promote the Center through various social media to encourage dog owners anywhere in the world to register for membership—and especially to participate in a study.
Within Connecticut, the Center is also interested in finding ambassadors and adoption organizations for the Homeless Pets Club.
